Used Bike Tubes

The main use for bike tires may be for transportation, but what to do with old rubber tubes after they run (roll?) their course? Two ideas:

1) Making ear buds big enough to stay in my ears.

2) Shoe laces that never have to be untied.

I love the ear-bud idea. Bike tubes offer a unique combination of stretchiness and high friction.
